i love this place and come at least once a week - amazing and affordable ($5-8) bagel sandwiches, great coffee, friendly staff. 10/10 recommend

I am a person of simple taste and drink straight coffee which is often revealing compared to sweetened or milk drinks. The coffee here is good! Service is fast. It's not too expensive. Highly recommended!

Great fresh coffee and friendly staff.. perfect place to sip a hot beverage while reading a book or working. I personally love the bagels here too!

Have been coming here for two years and used to love it, recently it has gone sharply down hill. We have recently ordered coffee drinks that we have not been able to even drink (one iced coffee had a layer of curdles after adding syrup). Recently orders have been incorrect too.

This place is amazing! The “Smooth Criminal” is the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had! Great service and I will be coming here more often.

I really enjoy the ambiance and location of Hero Coffee Bar for my morning commutes, a great place to work and relax with friendly staff. My go to is always something iced the drinks just seem watered down and not as strong as I would expect.

I just moved to Chicago 3 months ago and have been going here religiously, at least once a week, but after waiting 20 min for one bagel and seeing every other order come out in 5 min it’s looking like I need to find a new place. Staff is usually super friendly and nice but didnt have any remorse, and I would come back if they made amends by 1) apologizing, or 2) throwing in another item. What you think would be an easy thing to do to keep customers just didn’t happen and disappointely will not be coming back:(

I like this place for the bagel sandwiches (they're amazing!). However, it's very hard to work from here because they're always playing extremely loud, upbeat music that not even my own headphones can drown out. I respect the energy, but I think there's a time and place for it, and a coffee shop where customers come to primarily work/study is not it. Also, their coffee is usually too strong and bitter.

I’m moving in a few weeks and I’ve joked to my friends that Hero is one of the only things I’ll miss. Seriously some of the best coffee ever, and sometimes I take that for granted—my friend from out of town was wowed. The maple latte is seasonal but it’s my absolute favorite. I also have really enjoyed the bagels/breakfast sandwiches. The only feedback I’d give is that the coffee is definitely on the pricier side, and sometimes they can be sort of slow/I had a bad experience where they forgot my order and didn’t communicate very well. I feel really good about supporting a local small business though.

This was my first time here! Love the vibe and the baristas are SO nice. Unfortunately the music is SO loud. I wish I listened to the other reviews. I asked if there was anyway to turn it down and the barista explained that their boss has it set like this. I tried to use my noise cancelling headphones to work through it but I cannot. Super sad because it’s a great space.
