This place is a Mahtomedi staple. I spend most of my time in coffee shops around the twin cities but time and time again I find myself back at The Wild Bean. Great coffee and food is just one of the reasons this place is great! The super friendly staff and great atmosphere top it off. Highly recommend

Very quaint little coffee shop in Mahtomedi! Coffee is organic and free trade. Good food, yummy sweets, and a lot of different flavors for coffees and teas. Very pleasant atmosphere and outdoor patio. Highly recommended!

My wife and I like to walk down and get our coffee here from time to time. It’s always been great coffee and the staff has been very friendly. I would probably pass on the food options, as it wasn’t anything special.. but nonetheless they are a coffee shop and I feel they do it well!

Edit: I can say I have changed my previous 2-star rating after ownership changes. Maddie has really poured time, money, and effort into revamping this place. Only knocked off one star for quality of coffee. Wishing it was better, but it’s not awful. :)

2 stars: Location and community
Why not 5 stars: A few years back it would've been 5 stars, but since new ownership over the last two years, it has slowly gone downhill. The biggest complaint would be paying $35 for four sandwiches, only to find the ciabatta is completely soggy on half and brick hard on the other half... literally inedible.
I've talked to the owner and employees *multiple* times about this for years and there has been no resolve. This occurs about 80% of the orders.
As much as I love the local place, another concern is cleanliness. With the same gloves, the barista took orders on the register, made coffee, made sandwiches with meat, opened the freezer to get the soggy/hard bread, used the microwave, dug their hand into the chip bag, got a bakery item out of the case, and fixed their hair. Upon leaving, the same gloves were still on.
This completely breaks my heart to leave this review because I want to see this place succeed, but management has got to step it up and take initiative. If things change, I'll update the review.

We found this cute little coffee shop and would recommend to anyone. My husband is picky with his chai tea and he said it was the best he'd ever had. My iced americano was fabulous. They have cute, local items for sale inside. The staff is super friendly.

Friendly and helpful service. My coffee drink was very tasty and there was a nice array of small gifts available for purchase. I'll soon return.

Cute little place but the staff was not good. They forgot 3 things, we had to go up and remind them, so we waited 20 minutes for a smoothie and a regular coffee.

To be honest, I came here because Google Maps still had a previous shop with stellar reviews listed.
However, when I arrived, I recognized Wild Bean as the place one of my friends raved about when it opened a few months ago -- and I second the rave reviews.
The coffee drinks were good, and the freshly baked pumpkin bread (more like cake, I'd say) with cream cheese frosting was DELICIOUS.
The baristas freely admitted to being in a fall mood given the day's weather, so autumnal flavors were prominently featured. The warm spices sure hit the spot on this chilly morning.
