Red Onion Cafe

Red Onion used to be our go to place in Boone. Through menu changes and staff changes it is a different place. Food is good. Be careful parking on the hill and having your car door dinged by someone careless.

We were not impressed with our meal. We ordered two of their signature dishes, the Pesto Chicken Pizza ($17) and the Pesto Pasta with Chicken ($20), along with an Artichoke Dip ($10) and a side Garden Salad with ranch ($5). First of all, I think the prices on some of these are WAY too high – especially when you don’t get complimentary bread and the entrees don’t come with a soup or salad. The ingredients seemed to be of good quality in our entrees but the flavors were just way too subtle. We kept adding pepper, red pepper flakes, and Parmesan cheese to try to get some flavor but to no avail. The Artichoke Dip was also bland.
The few good things: The salad was fresh and the homemade ranch was on point. The sweet tea was good. The entrance and outdoor seating areas were beautiful and the restaurant was clean. Our waitress Jeimi was very friendly and attentive. However, I don’t think we’ll be back.

Wow! Was there with a group of 14 persons. Everyone loved their dishes! Pasta and meatballs, rib eye, tilapia tacos, french onion soup, and several others that I can't remember. Then came some delicious deserts. I highly recommend this place. FYI for you EV drivers -- there are a couple of free charging stations across the street. 8kw per hour.

Decent food and service. Bonus that it was across the street from a car charger.

All The Way Burger with homemade pimento cheese was fabulous as was the French Dip. Gluten free, vegan options, pizza, and other assorted deliciousness to choose from. Casual and comfortable. Dining al fresco or dine inside. Our server, Taylor, was outstanding and we hope she's there when we return to eat there. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. Thanks, y'all!

The food was delicious and fast to come out. I had the tempeh wrap and I highly recommend it! The service was also very good and our server was attentive to all of our needs.

Great food, well seasoned and fresh ingredients locally sourced. Not too expensive either, patio sitting is perfect in case you've got your dog with you. I ordered the salmon salad and it was perfectly cooked!

Our dinner was wonderful at the Red Onion Café in Boone, North Carolina. Joy was our server and she did a fantastic job, bless her heart, she ran her legs off! The restaurant was fairly busy and she had one half of the restaurant and did a great job!
I would highly recommend this restaurant, we have been here several times and have always enjoyed it!

Stopped in for a family lunch. Waitress was very nice. Food was good. Really enjoyed the blackened Tilapia sandwich. Kids meals nice, come with side drink and dessert which made them happy. The music, 1980’s soft rock can get a bit too much. Overall, decent place, good food.
