Because of the reviews, I’ve now attempted this restaurant 3 different times and was extremely disappointed each time. I’ve eaten a lot of southern food in my day, but never as bad as this. Even if it cost half as much, it would still be overpriced for the taste and the quality. I leave feeling completely underwhelmed and ripped off. I’d suggest saving your money, as there are much better restaurants with friendlier service in the area.

Food and flavors were fantastic! We had a wonderful time on the patio enjoying the fresh air and shade as well as the wonderful food options! Very unassuming little spot off the main drag but well worth the stop or take out! Friendly staff as well.

Awesome service and food. Great to work with. We had an after wedding meal and it couldn't have been better.

At first, I thought the prices was a little high, but once I got my food it was well worth it. The waitress was very friendly and nice. I would recommend this place to my friends and family and I will be back

Okay, so I always forget to take pictures of my food—but I was referred to Proper by a friend, and it did not disappoint! Waitstaff was knowledgeable and friendly, and the food was exceptional. We went here twice during our few days in Boone. The food is all homemade, and the quality is amazing. Have you ever had a butter biscuit that was CRISPY on the outside, and didn’t crumble to bits?? You will here. Macaroni and cheese lover?? My man took one bite of the creamy, cheese-drenched shell noodles and said, “I think my mouth just climaxed.”
The only thing I’d not recommend is the rice and gravy—nothing over which to write home. But the collards, pintos, homemade beats, Mac and cheese...so good. Catfish lightly breaded and generous portion.
Try it. We’ll be back.

Quaint little local spot. The overgrown nondescript exterior made us hesitant at first but we're so glad we stopped. Staff are all smiles & very attentive. The dining room is small with low lighting & there was a talented young man lightly playing guitar .. all made for a delightful dining experience. Orders at our table included meatloaf, collards, string beans, fried chicken, fried catfish, cabbage & succotash; all 'like mom used to make'.

Oh my goodness the food is amazing. I was a bit worried that it would be another place full of ambiance and no flavor. I have never been so happy to be wrong. Each time we've been the staff and food have been wonderful! You MUST try the mac n cheese

The food was incredible, traditional southern favorites with a twist! Locally sourced, small business, great environment. We sat outside and really enjoyed all the butterflies in the garden. They could use a little better layout for seating, but I also see how they're working with the space they have.

My first. Very excellent experience! Very friendly, great food, nice atmosphere.
