Only 1 staff person working so very slow. Brewed coffee was weak. Got the quiche because it looked amazing but under the delicious crust and eggs they added beans and corn. Super weird. Atmosphere is good. Art isn't very well displayed so hard to look at it. It just randomly hangs on the wall. No artist information or themes.

Try the maple donut with a cortado, perfection!

Ordered latte, intense taste and aroma yet very smooth. Better than Blue Bottle.
Wife ordered latte with caramel, it was too sweet for me, but wife says good balance between sweetness and bold coffee taste.

The coffee wasn’t anything special. The prices were super high and the staff was not friendly at all. It’s a shame because I REALLY had high hopes for this place.

The staff is very friendly, the tea and coffee are excellent! As well was the food they offer. Everything is well priced especially when you consider high quality of what they sell. I highly recommend coming to this cozy and inviting place!

I love stopping by Shades of Brown to study. They have a great coffee selection and some food options from Trenchers Deli, which you should check out if are looking for an amazing sandwich. Oh yeah, back to the coffee. They have very knowledgeable barista staff who are able to provide some tasting notes on drip and espresso options.
Instead of typical mugs, they offer locally made ceramic cups which, albeit poorly insulated, are very artistic and provide a unique environment for sipping coffee.
They do have a somewhat large backroom, I say this because I didn’t notice it until I had been to shades a number of times.
If you are in the Brookside area and looking for great coffee and treats then stop by Shades of brown. There is a Starbucks down the road, but their coffee offerings don’t compare to Shades...

Ordered a mocha and it came out pretty quickly considering how many orders they had. Great atmosphere, lots of different seating styles.

Good quality ingredients, very friendly staff, clean bathrooms and interesting art on the walls. They also have a table or two outside.

Tonight was actually my first time ever going to Shades, and I'm absolutely in love!!! The ambience and overall feel is super cozy, and the food and coffee are incredible. The baristas are also really sweet and quick to get your orders out. Overall 10/10, I would absolutely recommend stopping by!!

Poor service, lack of communication, wore out equipment to say the least. Honestly if you are meeting there for (1) a small cup of coffee...it's good. On the other hand, if a small meal is what you want...go somewhere else. Staff is unprepared to handle an average crowd. Do not order food there, small orders are thrown one at a time into a 1982 toaster oven, then thrown on the counter. If you are visiting with others your order will sit there or in our case be taken. *TO THE OWNERS...get rid of your food or get better equipment and hire better people. At least someone that wants to take care of customers, or HINT HINT limit your serving capacities.
